The Team & Role
The VECMOS Nurse Coordinator is a senior expert in critical care nursing, with advanced theoretical knowledge and clinical expertise in the management of patients receiving Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) within the Intensive Care Unit. This role provides professional clinical leadership, fostering collaborative practice across the multidisciplinary ECMO team, including medical leads and clinical perfusion staff, to support coordinated patient-centred care.
The VECMOS ECMO Coordinator facilitates the coordination of interdisciplinary education, ensuring the skill acquisition and clinical competence of the ECMO nursing workforce. The role also contributes to advancing the specialty through active involvement in research, quality improvement, and the promotion of evidence-based practice.
Working in close partnership with the VECMOS State Coordinator, VECMOS Clinical Lead, and ECMO CNCs from seven VECMOS accredited sites across Victoria, this position plays a pivotal role in fostering state-wide collaboration, upholding clinical governance, and supporting the consistent delivery of best-practice ECMO care.
The VECMOS Nurse Coordinator role is supported through ongoing funding from the Department of Health, and aligns with the priorities, purpose and beliefs within their local site position description, including a strong focus on patient-centred care.
