The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Project Officer to provide a critical role within Court Assessment and Prosecutions Services (CAPS) Central Unit.
About the Business Unit
Justice Services is responsible for the direction, management, and operation of Victoria's Community Correctional Services (CCS) across more than 35 locations. It ensures offenders are safely and securely managed and aims to rehabilitate offenders by addressing the underlying causes of offending behaviour.
Community Operations and Parole is responsible for providing central end-to-end oversight of the CCS service system and includes the Parole Central Unit (PCU), Practice Development and Review Branch (PDRB), State-wide Community Work and Partnerships (SCWP), Offender Management Development Branch (OMBD), Court Assessment and Prosecutions Services (CAPS) Central Unit and the Adult Parole Board (APB) Secretariat. CCS review and investigation activities, monitoring and reporting and a suite of operational projects are also functions undertaken within Community Operations and Parole.
The Drug Court of Victoria (DCV) is a statutory division of the Magistrates' Court of Victoria and part of MCV Specialist Courts and Programs. The division provides an alternative sentencing option to offenders with drug and/or alcohol dependency who have committed offence/s whilst under the influence of drugs or alcohol and/or to support their dependency. The Drug Court is supported by a multi-disciplinary team and includes CCS Drug Court practitioners who implement intensive interventions for complex Drug Court participants.
About the Role
The Project Officer will be responsible for assisting with the development of CCS Drug Court operations within the Magistrates' Court of Victoria. The role sits within the CAPS Central Unit which provides strategic oversight of the CAPS model and ensures a consistent level of service is provided to the Courts to support best practice sentencing and contravention decisions. Reporting to the CAPS Drug Court Practice Lead, the Project Officer is responsible for providing project support to both the CAPS and Case Management Drug Court Practice Lead, performing a range of functions including project planning, research and analysis on complex queries, liaison with a range of internal and external stakeholders, and the preparation of correspondence, briefings and reports. Record management, monitoring, reporting and data analysis will also be a focus of this role.
