Selection Criteria
SC1 Demonstrated expert knowledge of the relevant curriculum. Demonstrated ability to lead and manage the implementation of school priorities, and the teaching of literacy and numeracy skills across the curriculum.
SC2 Demonstrated ability to lead the planning and implementation of high impact teaching strategies that respond to student learning needs. Demonstrated ability to support teachers to evaluate the impact of learning and teaching programs on student learning growth.
SC3 Demonstrated exemplary ability to monitor and assess student learning at a class, cohort or whole-school level and use this data to lead improvement initiatives. Demonstrated ability to support others in using data to inform teaching practice and to provide feedback on student learning growth and achievement to students and parents.
SC4 Demonstrated exemplary interpersonal and leadership skills. Demonstrated ability to lead collaborative relationships with students, colleagues, parents and the broader school community focused on student learning, agency, wellbeing and engagement.

Role
Strategic Leadership
- Be an active member of the Leadership Team and make a high-level contribution to the implementation of the Strategic and Annual Implementation Plans.
- Liaise with the Principal Team on matters related to teaching, learning, assessment and reporting, and oversee submissions to Leadership Team meetings.
- Participate in school events after hours and lead by example in upholding school culture and the ethos of excellence.
Pedagogical Leadership
- Proactively lead the improvement of teacher effectiveness through the PLT program, instructional coaching, professional learning, and annual review processes.
- Ensure quality assurance in curriculum and pedagogy based on educational research and learning theory.
- Implement pedagogical reform in collaboration with Heads of Learning and Learning Specialists.
- Ensure highly effective pedagogical practice across the school through regular meetings with Learning Specialists.
- Work with the Director of International Relations (Head of EAL) to ensure high-quality pedagogy in all classes, especially EAL and Language Centres.
- Work with Director of Inclusive Education to ensure pedagogical practices meet the needs of students with a disability or other learning need
- Model instructional practices in alignment with the e5 instructional model and VTLM2.0.
- Support and encourage teaching staff to share ideas, strategies and resources (e.g. via Principal Team Notices and the Learning Lab Library).
Curriculum and Assessment Leadership
- Lead and support the infusion of the school's Vision and Values and the e5 Instructional Model into curriculum programs.
- Promote the use of appropriate digital technologies and ensure placement of resources on SharePoint/Compass to enhance student learning outcomes.
- Seek and use student outcome data to inform curriculum design through Learning and Teaching Committee meetings and instructional coaching.
- Work with Heads of Learning and teachers to ensure integrity of assessments and exams.
- Liaise with teacher librarians to further develop the school's resource base.
Professional Learning and Capacity Building
- Coordinate ongoing professional learning opportunities for staff, in consultation with the Assistant Principal.
- Contribute to a rich Learning Lab Library for teacher reference.
- Provide opportunities for Learning Walks and Instructional Rounds across the school and the Riversdale Network.
- Assume a major teaching role in your Learning Area/s and support less experienced teachers with subject advice.
Program Leadership - SEAL
- Lead and manage the SEAL program including testing and selection, staffing, pedagogy, parent events, and professional learning.
- Consult with the Assistant Principal (Staffing/Timetable) on SEAL allotments, management, and rooming.
- Administer and/or oversee the SEAL Program Budget, conduct an annual review, and prepare an evaluation report for the Principal.

* the placing of resources on the school's SharePoint/Compass Resources with the aim of enhancing student learning outcomes. - to model teaching for meaning and understanding based on constructivist theory
- to seek out and use data about student outcomes to inform the design of curriculum, at Learning and Teaching Committee meetings and with individual staff
- to work in collaboration with the Principal Team to provide multiple opportunities for Instructional Rounds and Learning Walks for Balwyn High School and Riversdale Network staff
Tasks:
- to assume a major teaching role in their Learning Area/s and where appropriate to assist less experienced teachers with support and subject advice
- to conduct formal meetings at regular intervals with the school's Learning Specialists and through these meetings:
- ensure highly effective pedagogical practice across the school
- coordinate ongoing professional learning opportunities for staff
- contribute to a rich Learning Lab Library for teacher reference
- to support and encourage teaching staff to share ideas, teaching strategies and resources through the Principal Team Notices
- to counsel staff on classroom management strategies where problems have been identified - this may involve consultation with the Heads of Learning and the SLWMs
- to work with Heads of Learning and teaching staff to ensure the integrity of year level examinations and assessment tasks
- to oversee submissions to and to attend Leadership Team meetings and liaise with the Principal Team on issues related to teaching, learning, assessment and reporting
- to liaise with Director of International Relations (Head of EAL) to ensure high quality pedagogical practices across all classrooms, but in particular EAL classes and our Language Centres
- to consult with the Assistant Principal (Staffing/Timetable) and advise on SEAL teaching allotments, management issues and room allocations
- to liaise with the teacher librarians regarding resources and to further develop the resource base to enable the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning
- to administer and/or oversee the SEAL Program Budget, to conduct an annual minor review of the SEAL program and prepare an evaluation report for the Principal
- to participate in school special events after school and lead by example in the maintenance of school culture and the ethos of excellence
- to perform other duties as directed by the Principal.
Who May Apply
Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.

VIT LANTITE
To be eligible for employment, transfer or promotion in the principal or teacher class a person must have provisional or full registration from the Victorian Institute of Teaching. In addition, from 3 August 2020, to be eligible for employment in the principal class or teacher class, a person who graduated from a Victorian Initial Teacher Education program after 1 July 2016, must demonstrate that they have passed the literacy and numeracy test for initial teacher education (LANTITE) requirements. This condition is satisfied where the LANTITE requirement is part of the Victorian Initial Teacher Education program completed by the person.
