The Opportunity
The Director, Network Operations Oversight at VicGrid plays a pivotal leadership role in overseeing the planning, monitoring and operations of Victoria's future electricity transmission network. The role leads a multidisciplinary team focused on ensuring the secure, efficient, and reliable operation of transmission infrastructure to support Victoria's renewable energy transition.
This position works collaboratively across government, industry, and regulators to ensure VicGrid's network development plans are effectively implemented, operational risks are mitigated, and that Victoria's energy system remains reliable and resilient during a period of transformational change.
What you will deliver
• Provide oversight and facilitate the assessment of power system and operational readiness for new and modified network augmentations, including Renewable Energy Zones (REZs) and interconnectors.
• Ensure the timely identification and mitigation of operational risks as new assets are integrated into the transmission network.
• Oversee the planning and review of control schemes associated with network updates.
• Manage the receipt and distribution of recommendations for the creation or modification of control schemes to maintain and enhance network performance.
What you will bring
• Extensive experience in power system operations or transmission network planning, with a strong understanding of operational readiness, system security, and technical integration of new assets.
• High-level knowledge of the National Electricity Market (NEM), including the application of the NER/NEL, and mechanisms for system strength, inertia, ancillary services, and control schemes.
• Ability to manage control scheme planning, including reviewing and implementing updates to ensure network performance.
