THE ROLE
Reporting to the Social Services Regulator (SSR) and as a key member of the Senior Executive Leadership Team, the Deputy Regulator, Child Safeguarding and Social Services is responsible for the regulation of the Child Safe Standards, Social Services Standards, Reportable Conduct Scheme and the Worker Carer Exclusion Scheme.
The role protects the rights and safety of children and young people by monitoring and enforcing duty holders' compliance with the Child Safe Standards, Reportable Conduct Scheme and administering the Worker and Carer Exclusion Scheme.
The role ensures social services are safe and treat people with agency and dignity by monitoring and enforcing duty holders' compliance with the Social Services Standards across child protection, community-based child and family, disability (with some exclusions), family violence, homelessness, out-of-home care, secure welfare, sexual assault and supported residential services.
The Deputy Regulator is also responsible for the regulation of Child Safe Standards for all social service providers and 20,000 child related organisations not regulated by integrated sector regulator, and the Reportable Conduct Scheme.
The role also oversees a team of staff in supporting the Social Services Regulator's approach to the regulation of Aboriginal cultural safety to enable service providers to develop and strengthen the foundation necessary for the delivery of culturally safe social services. This includes providing advice on the Social Services Regulator's regulation of in-scope Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations. The role will also play a lead role in engaging with the Victorian Aboriginal community more broadly to maximise the Regulator's effectiveness in safeguarding the rights and wellbeing of Aboriginal services users.
The role is also responsible for modernising and strengthening the SSR to be a contemporary, integrated, risk-based and intelligence led regulator able to effectively carry out delegations from the Social Services Regulator.
