NHW is the major regional health service and specialist referral facility for Northeast Victoria. It serves a population of approximately 102,000,
performs over 6,500 procedures a year and has over 19,000 inpatient episodes and 30,000 Emergency Department attendances a year and approximately 700 births per year. We have onsite radiology, pathology and blood bank service. NHW provides a wide range of acute specialist medical and surgical services, an emergency department, critical care unit (ICU, HDU, CCU), obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, specialised aged care, medical oncology services, community rehabilitation, inpatient, community, aged and psycho-geriatric mental health services.

Northeast Health Wangaratta is seeking a dynamic and committed medical leader for the position of Deputy Director Medical Services (0.6 FTE). This is a flexible consultant-level role, with the possibility of job-sharing arrangements. The role is open to RACMA trainees and may also be considered as a conjoint appointment with a clinical position at NHW.
Working closely with and reporting to the Executive Director of Medical Services, the Deputy Director will play a key role in ensuring the safe, effective and efficient delivery of medical services. The position involves direct support to clinical departments across a range of functions including workforce recruitment, appointment, credentialing, and service planning. It offers the opportunity to provide visible leadership to medical staff, model professional standards, and contribute to the ongoing development, evaluation and monitoring of medical services.
The successful candidate will also support organisational efforts to maintain a strong health and safety culture and may act as delegate for the Executive Director during periods of leave or absence.
