The Commission is an independent statutory body that promotes improvement in policies and practices affecting the safety and wellbeing of Victorian children and young people. It has a particular focus on vulnerable children and young people. The Commission is also the regulator for the Child Safe Standards and the Reportable Conduct Scheme. The Commission supports flexible and hybrid working models.

Reporting to the Director Regulation, the Deputy Director, CSS Operations will lead operational delivery of the Commission's compliance and enforcement functions for the Child Safe Standards. They will drive effective overall performance by applying a risk-based approach, supporting steady workflow and good case management, implementing performance measures and focusing on the achievement of outcomes for children and young people.
They will be adept at developing and delivering strategic approaches to maximise children's safety and compliance, using both reactive and pro-active regulatory responses. Working collaboratively with other Commission teams, the Deputy Director, CSS Operations will also support whole of Commission strategic interventions.
The Deputy Director, CSS Operations will provide expert advice to the Commission's Governance Group on compliance and enforcement matters and will also focus on coaching and supporting the Commission's Authorised Officers to develop their skills and expertise.
Please note that the Victorian Government has announced that the Reportable Conduct and Child Safe Standards functions will transfer from the Commission for Children and Young People to the Social Services Regulator. Whilst recruitment to this role will commence at the Commission for Children and Young People, it is anticipated that the role will be transferred to the Social Services Regulator in early 2026.
In this role you will:
- Provide operational leadership with a focus on actively identifying, analysing, reviewing and responding to emerging issues and areas of risk with a focus on achieving outcomes for children and young people
- Working with the Manager, lead compliance and enforcement activities to achieve Commission objectives
- Continuously improve the design and functioning of the Commission's Child Safe Standards compliance function, including the maintenance of appropriate governance, structural and operational systems and practices to ensure the Commission is best placed to fulfil these functions and that it is achieving outcomes for children and young people
- Forge and maintain strategic partnerships with co-regulators and other stakeholders.
About You

- Be an experienced operational leader with experience in a regulator or a law enforcement setting
- Have demonstrated experience in managing high performing teams in a high pressure environment of competing priorities and tight timeframes
- Be a critical thinker with a focus on outcomes and innovation, and always be able to keep children at the centre of your work
- Demonstrate strategic thinking in planning, design, development and deployment of new processes and identify opportunities for enhancements to existing processes
- Demonstrate initiative and have excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
- Have an interest in improving organisations' policies and practices affecting the safety and wellbeing of Victorian children and young people.
