St Albans East Primary School is a vibrant and inclusive learning community located in a well-established residential area of St Albans, within the City of Brimbank. With a current enrolment of 380 students, the school comprises 18 classes, averaging 22 students per class. Reflecting the rich diversity of our local community, 84% of our students come from a Language Background Other Than English (LBOTE), and our Student Family Occupation (SFO) index is 0.75.
We are proud to host the Primary Deaf Facility for the western suburbs of Melbourne, which supports the specific learning needs of Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. Currently, nine students are enrolled in the facility, supported by two Teachers of the Deaf and and two Auslan interpreters. To further promote inclusivity and communication, Auslan is taught across the school as our Language Other Than English (LOTE).
Our teaching and learning programs are guided by the Victorian Curriculum and underpinned by the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model. We offer a broad range of specialist programs including Visual and Performing Arts, Physical Education, STEM, LOTE (Auslan), and Literacy Support using the Fountas & Pinnell Levelled Literacy Intervention program. Literacy and numeracy remain key priorities across all year levels, with a strong emphasis on building teacher capacity and meeting the individual learning needs of every student through targeted teaching and Individual Learning Plans.
The school is also focused on strengthening digital learning, increasing student access to devices, and embedding technology into classroom practice. A variety of social development programs support student wellbeing and complement the formal curriculum. Innovative approaches to teaching and learning are encouraged, and we place great value on building strong partnerships with families and the wider community.
A major milestone for our school has been the completion of a $16 million Capital Works Program, which has transformed our facilities. The upgrades include two new learning centres, a modern administration building, a purpose-built Deaf and Allied Health Hub, a new canteen, STEM facilities, a Visual Art Studio, a Kitchen Garden Program space, a Community Room, a gymnasium, and a Performing Arts Centre. This significant investment marks an exciting new chapter for St Albans East Primary School and enhances the educational experience for all students.
