About the role
The Cloud Environment Lead is responsible for the implementation, management and optimisation of the Department’s cloud services, ensuring they are secure, scalable, compliant and aligned with business needs. Working closely with stakeholders, delivery teams and vendors, the role provides technical leadership and guidance to support high-quality cloud solutions and improve services across the Department’s public cloud environments.
The role drives cloud innovation through automation, CI/CD adoption and continuous improvement, while ensuring strong governance, security and regulatory compliance. It also manages cloud performance, costs and vendor partnerships, promotes modern technology practices, and fosters a collaborative, inclusive culture that supports learning, adaptability and operational excellence.

Qualifications and experience
You’ll bring:
A relevant tertiary qualification in information management, computer science, cloud computing or a related field (or equivalent industry-recognised certifications), together with AWS and Microsoft Azure certifications (mandatory).
Demonstrated experience managing and optimising enterprise public cloud environments, including cloud lifecycle management, automation, optimisation, and the implementation of security and compliance controls (mandatory).
Strong hands-on experience with AWS, DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, hybrid and multi-cloud environments, infrastructure-as-code tools, and cloud cost optimisation, with the ability to align cloud services to operational and strategic objectives (mandatory).
