Fixed Term, Part Time Role – 24 hours per fortnight
Join a leading, multidisciplinary team dedicated to advancing patient care in genomic medicine and familial cancer risk management. The Department of Genomic Medicine and Parkville Familial Cancer Centre (FCC) delivers specialized services that support individuals and families navigating the complexities of inherited cancer risk and genetic diagnoses.
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) to play a pivotal role in delivering expert care, coordination, and support to patients identified as carriers of pathogenic or likely pathogenic genetic mutations.
About the Role
As a Clinical Nurse Consultant, you will provide advanced clinical expertise at the intersection of nursing and genomic medicine. You will be instrumental in guiding patients and their families through the lifelong implications of genetic risk, ensuring they receive tailored, evidence-based care in a supportive and compassionate environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Deliver specialized nursing care to individuals with inherited cancer predisposition, supporting both newly diagnosed and long-term patients.
• Provide clear, accessible education about genetic conditions, surveillance strategies, and risk-reduction options.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary care pathways, working closely with geneticists, oncologists, surgeons, and allied health professionals.
• Lead ongoing monitoring and follow-up programs to ensure optimal patient outcomes and adherence to recommended care plans.
• Offer psychosocial support to patients and families, helping them navigate the emotional and practical impacts of genetic diagnoses.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of evidence-based clinical protocols and models of care.
• Act as a key patient advocate, ensuring care is holistic, culturally sensitive, and patient-centred.
About You
• Registered Nurse with extensive clinical experience, ideally in oncology, genetics, or chronic disease management.
• Demonstrated ability to work autonomously in an advanced practice role.
• Strong understanding (or willingness to develop expertise) in genomics and hereditary cancer syndromes.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex genetic information into meaningful guidance for patients.
• Proven experience in care coordination and working within multidisciplinary teams.
• A compassionate, empathetic approach with a strong commitment to patient advocacy and wellbeing.
