Avenues Education is a South East Victoria Region (SEVR) outreach government school that works in partnership with Infant Child Youth Mental Health Services (ICYMHS). Schools and ICYMHS refer students to Avenues Education to provide targeted educational services for students experiencing social, emotional, and mental health difficulties in accessing the education environment. We provide tiered support directly to SEVR schools including: mental health prevention and promotion activities, school capability building sessions, professional learning, consultation and liaison.
Students who are referred and consent to Avenues Education involvement, retain enrolment in their school of origin. Depending on the program and individual health needs, students undertake sessions with Avenues Education either at their school of origin or at Avenues Education locations. Avenues Education is located across a number of sites including Moorabbin, Ringwood and Box Hill. All staff work across these sites.
Avenues Education Teachers must demonstrate exemplary teaching practice and highly developed skills to improve student learning in the context of social, emotional and mental health concerns. Teachers also provide consultation, liaison and the delivery of Professional Development to schools and other agencies.
All teachers work with both Primary and Secondary school students as part of our mixed and flexible learning setting. All teachers are provided with mentoring and support to build their skills and practices in our unique setting.
