An education support class position at this range will perform tasks that are carried out in accordance with guidelines, accepted practice, and school policy under supervision and direction. This may include coordination of other education support class staff within the work area or educational program.
An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students but must not include duties of a teacher as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students can be required individually or in groups up to 4 in controlled circumstances and where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.
Certification and/or qualifications of up to three years can be required at this level (noting that Registered Nurse is not included at this level, the first level for which is Level 1 range 3).

An education support class position at this range commencing at the base will initially be limited to undertaking routine tasks that are carried out under close supervision and direction. Work that carries some degree of independence will generally involve a limited number of tasks performed on a regular basis where priorities are clear, procedures are well established, and direction is readily available. Subject to any specific qualification and/or training requirement, an education support class employee employed in this range may be progressively required to undertake coordination, specialised student/teacher support tasks, or technical tasks as experience in the role is gained.

A culture of caring for one another is immediately evident in the student population at Hepburn Primary School. Cross age play and `looking after each other¿ is the norm. We provide an exceptional environment for all where the `whole child¿ is nurtured and students are valued as individuals. Abundant grounds attract a huge variety of wildlife and provide our students with ample room to play and learn.
With a current enrolment of 40 students, we will run three classrooms ¿ F/1, 2/3/4 and 5/6 in 2026. We offer a high-quality learning program which sees research and evidence-based approaches informing our planning, teaching and learning.
A strong focus on Professional Learning Communities (PLC) provide staff protected time together to plan, assess and upskill as a collective group. By doing so our staff are educators of all students, contributing to Individual Education Plans, intervention and targeted small group work. Team teaching is a vital part of our school culture, sharing expertise, learning together and striving to provide our students with the best possible experiences. We have embedded Sounds Write as our phonics approach which sees explicit teaching daily across all grades. We take an Inquiry approach to deliver cross curricular areas, providing students with the opportunity to explore areas of interest and use their strengths to showcase their understanding of key concepts.
A focus on wellbeing is of paramount importance to us. The school¿s wellbeing team meet weekly to determine actions to support whole school, group and individual wellbeing needs. We have also had a significant focus on our school values Curiosity, Courage, Kindness and our school vision, `We are a vibrant community of unique individuals where all are inspired to learn, laugh and flourish together¿. We have been implementing School Wide Positive Behaviour (SWPBS). As part of this learning we now have a behaviour matrix and flow chart that supports our students with expectations and provides a bases for all that we do.
Enriching the work in our classrooms, we offer a number of specialist classes including Science, Visual Art, Drama/Music, Auslan, Health/P.E and Rights, Resilience and Respectful Relationships in 2025. Initiatives such as our cooking program, allow further educational opportunities. Our school is part of the Wathaurong sport cluster providing opportunities for cross school involvement in athletics, cross country, tennis, basketball, soccer, netball and football competitions and the opportunity to progress to higher competition levels.
Our excursion and camp programs offer opportunities for students to explore the world beyond their classrooms and include visits to Earth Ed, Sovereign Hill as well as urban, beach and bush camps. We are proud of our special events days and the strong community support for these days including, Book Week, Breakfast Club, family picnic, graduation and our Christmas celebration.
Strong relationships with our local kindergartens and secondary school support quality transition programs, ensuring smooth entry into foundation and year seven.
