The Catering Assistant (CA) primary role is work with the Catering Manager as an effective team to provide meals as part of the school program. The CA will report to and be responsible directly to the Catering Manager. In their absence, they will report to the Principal or their nominee.
From time to time performs and/or coordinates tasks that are carried out in accordance with guidelines, accepted practice and school policy. This may include the supervision and coordination of other education support class staff within the work area or educational program. Supervision and coordination would be limited to ensuring routine tasks are performed to required standards. Input into identifying training needs and development of education support class staff within the work area or educational program becomes an important feature at range 2.
Specialised support to achieve specific outcomes is a feature of range 2. Typically this will involve accountability for a single function, (e.g. ensuring data is properly maintained) or the operation of a work area (e.g. managing the day to day operation the sandwich bar) under the direction of the Catering Manager or another senior manager.
Performs routine tasks that require basic cooking techniques and sound knowledge of kitchen proceduers and food safety practice, along with kitchen hygiene and cleanliness.
An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee's position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.
An education support class position at this range will perform tasks that are carried out in accordance with guidelines, accepted practice, and school policy under supervision and direction. This may include coordination of other education support class staff within the work area or educational program.
An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students but must not include duties of a teacher as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students can be required individually or in groups up to 4 in controlled circumstances and where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.
Certification and/or qualifications of up to three years can be required at this level (noting that Registered Nurse is not included at this level, the first level for which is Level 1 range 3).

An education support class position at this range commencing at the base will initially be limited to undertaking routine tasks that are carried out under close supervision and direction. Work that carries some degree of independence will generally involve a limited number of tasks performed on a regular basis where priorities are clear, procedures are well established, and direction is readily available. Subject to any specific qualification and/or training requirement, an education support class employee employed in this range may be progressively required to undertake coordination, specialised student/teacher support tasks, or technical tasks as experience in the role is gained.

Food Safety Program
¿ Record readings within the Daily Food Safety Program.
Breakfast
¿ Restock front of house breakfast cereals post meals.
¿ Restock the breakfast shelf in cool room with perishables.
Sandwich Bar ¿ Breakfast
¿ Ensure all condiments are full and clean eg. margarine tubs, jam tubs, vegemite tubs etc.
¿ Restock bread tub for toast.
Sandwich Bar ¿ Lunch
¿ Initially prepare and subsequently restock the ingredients in the sandwich bar Including lettuce, tomato, cheese, beetroot, carrot, cucumber, ham, salami, tuna etc
¿ Ensure all condiments are full and clean eg. chutneys, pickles, chilli sauce etc
¿ Restock bread tub for lunch making.
¿ Clean bread bags for reuse.
Fruit
¿ Restock fruit boxes with seasonal fruit.
Camp Outs
¿ Establish camp out numbers and apply them to the distribution of food into groups eg. groceries, scroggin, perishables etc.
¿ Repack consumables eg. hot chocolate, milk powder, sugar, etc.
General
¿ Assisting Catering Manager with general food prep for both main meals, desert & BBQ¿s etc.
¿ Learn Catering Managers role with a view to being able to fill in when there is an absence.
Cleaning
¿ Maintain clean work areas and serving spaces.
¿ Assist Catering Manager with termly and annual cleans.
