About Language Services
The Language Services Office is equipped with 16 telephone lines across the Repat and Austin Campuses and is open Mon – Fri 8:30am – 4:30pm. For patients with limited English proficiency or who use sign language, interpreters play an essential role in ensuring access to services and meaningful participation in the care they receive at Austin Health. It is not appropriate to use family members to interpret. Family members are emotionally involved, have no training and there is no guarantee that information will be relayed accurately and in its entirety. Interpreters may be required to provide interpreting face to face, telephone or video.
About the role
The casual Greek Interpreter position sits within the Language Services Department which reports to the Manager of Language Services. The Language Services Department has offices at both the Austin and Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital campuses. Where required for face-to-face interpreting, interpreters travel to appointments using the free shuttle bus, which is available between the Austin and Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital campuses.
