Range 4 is distinguished by broader management responsibility, particularly in the areas of finance, human resource and other support functions. Range 4 is responsible for managing a range of functions under a wide range of conditions, subject to the size and complexity of school operations.
Objectives will, generally, be clearly defined; guidelines will be broad and day-to-day direction minimal. Management responsibility extends to ensuring appropriate support levels are maintained across the school. Range 4 generally provides key support and timely advice to the leadership team and school council and liaises with the general school community, the Department and other government agencies and service providers.
Specialised professional roles will carry a high level of independence and accountability where suitable scope is provided to achieve objectives.
An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employees position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.
The Careers and Pathways Coordinator at Sandringham College is responsible for guiding students through their career development, educational pathways and transition into further education or the workforce. A relevant professional qualification or certification in career counselling or career education is required.
Where work is required outside of regular working hours or during school vacation periods time in lieu will be approved.
Careers Education and Student Pathways
Work Experience Program Management
Subject Selection and Senior Pathways
Coordinate and manage subject selection processes for students transitioning into Years 10, 11 and 12.
Support the College course counselling program, including coordinating staff professional learning for course counselling, and provide guidance to students and families throughout the selection process.
Present careers and pathway information at year level assemblies, parent forums and information evenings.
Support the Year 9 into 10 Subject Selection Expo and coordinate careers-related events that support student decision-making.
Year 12 and Post-School Transitions
Support Year 12 students through all aspects of their post-school planning, including VTAC applications, SEAS, scholarship applications and Change of Preference.
Provide advice regarding tertiary pathways, apprenticeships, employment opportunities and alternative pathways after school.
Assist students with applications for scholarships, university early entry programs, TAFE courses and apprenticeship opportunities.
Track and monitor student destinations after leaving school and maintain accurate transition data to meet Department of Education reporting requirements.
Career Development Programs and Industry Engagement
Coordinate work experience, structured workplace learning, careers expos, university and TAFE visits, guest speakers, trade tasters and other careers-related excursions and incursions.
Build and maintain strong partnerships with universities, TAFEs, employers, industry groups and external organisations to expand pathway opportunities for students.
Represent the College on external networks and professional forums, including careers practitioner groups, LLEN, VET clusters and university advisory groups.
Student Support and Administration
Support students at risk of disengaging from their learning and support them by collaborating with Head of Year, wellbeing staff, teachers, and external agencies to coordinate referrals and develop appropriate pathway plans.
Assist students with résumé preparation, job applications, interview skills and general career readiness.
Manage exemptions, exits and pathway documentation, ensuring accurate record keeping and compliance with Department requirements.
Maintain the Careers information for students, the Careers section of the College website newsletters and other communication channels to ensure students and families receive current careers information.
Other Duties
Work collaboratively with the Leading Teachers, Assistant Principal and College staff to embed career education across the school.
Provide administrative support for careers programs and contribute to whole-school events and initiatives as required
Attend school events outside of regular working hours when required (note that Time in Lieu will be approved on these occasions)
Perform general education support staff duties and as required in the event of other ES staff absences perform replacement duties
Ensure professionalism, efficiency, cheerfulness, reliability, politeness and teamwork are implemented, followed and supported at all times.
Maintain a professional, safe and organised work environment while demonstrating the College values of high expectations, collaboration, respect and responsibility.
