1. Demonstrated experience in managing a canteen or food service operation, including menu planning, stock control, ordering, and rostering, with a strong understanding of the Healthy Choices Guidelines.
2. Demonstrated knowledge of food safety standards and regulations, including safe food handling, storage, and hygiene practices, with the ability to maintain a canteen that meets all relevant health and safety requirements.
3. Proven ability to manage budgets, pricing, cash handling, and basic record keeping and reporting, ensuring the canteen operates efficiently.
4. Demonstrated effective communication and customer service skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and volunteers, and to work collaboratively as part of the broader school community.
5. Demonstrated experience in supervising, training, and coordinating canteen staff and/or volunteers, fostering a safe, positive, and productive working environment consistent with the Department's values and codes of conduct.
The Canteen Manager is responsible for the coordination, management and day to day operation of the College Canteen, delivering an effective, efficient and welcoming food service to the Gleneagles Secondary College community. Key responsibilities include:
Taking overall responsibility for the smooth and efficient functioning of the Canteen each school day, including opening/closing procedures, service delivery, and maintaining a clean, safe and well organised food service environment.
Planning and preparing food and beverage items in line with the Departments healthy eating policy, and sourcing, ordering and purchasing all necessary stock, ingredients and supplies in a cost effective manner.
Providing induction, training, ensuring they understand food handling, hygiene, and customer service expectations, and fostering a positive learning experience for students involved in the Canteen.
Working independently and without direct supervision, exercising sound judgement in the daily management of Canteen operations, stock levels, and service standards.
Holding, or willing to obtain, the appropriate Safe Food Handling certification, and ensuring all food preparation, storage and service practices comply with current food safety regulations and school policy.
The Canteen Manager performs the following roles within the College, under the direction of the College Principal and Business Manager:
Ensure the efficient operation of the Campus Canteen, within the constraints and guidelines.
Organise the day to day operations of the College Canteen, including food preparation, service and hygiene compliance to a high standard and in line with guidelines.
Maintain menus that reflect cultural inclusivity and healthy eating guidelines, and support student wellbeing and dietary requirements.
Manage the ordering, receiving, preparation, maintenance and storage of food, materials and equipment in the College Canteen, within budgetary constraints.
Ensure all Food Safety, Allergen Management and OH&S requirements are met and appropriately documented.
Support College events, functions and staff meetings that require catering or hospitality.
Demonstrate excellent organisational and time management skills.
Demonstrate the capacity to show initiative and work both independently and cooperatively as a member of a team.
Exhibit highly developed interpersonal and communication skills to promote the College and its values when dealing with all members of the College community.
Process food invoices each month and provide these to the Business Manager.
Undertake other duties as directed by the College Principal and/or Business Manager.
