Epsom Primary School, located 8 km north of Bendigo, provides a high-quality, inclusive education for students from Foundation to Grade 6. Our vision is: 'To ignite excellence and a love of learning within a community that grows together.' We are committed to fostering a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment, where every student is empowered to Strive for Excellence, Take Pride, Act Responsibly, and Respect our Community. These values underpin our approach to learning, student wellbeing, and community engagement.
Epsom Primary School has 387 students across 17 classrooms, supported by over 50 dedicated staff members, including experienced educators, early-career teachers, and Education Support staff. Our school has a mix of single-year level and composite classes, ensuring flexibility in learning and strong student connections across year levels.
Epsom PS offers a diverse curriculum enriched by specialist programs in Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Physical Education, and AUSLAN. Our students also benefit from hands-on learning experiences through initiatives such as The Green Nest, an outdoor sustainability and wellbeing space featuring a greenhouse with hydroponics, frog pond, animal program, and an outdoor classroom. This unique facility, developed with input from student leadership groups and community grants, supports environmental education, student wellbeing, and alternative learning opportunities.
Epsom PS has been committed to a systematic synthetic phonics (SSP) approach since 2020, ensuring a consistent and evidence-based foundation for early literacy development. As part of our dedication to evidence-based literacy instruction, we were previously selected as a SOLAR (Systematic Oral Language and Reading) school by La Trobe University, further strengthening oral language and phonics instruction in the early years. This structured approach has been embedded across Foundation to Year 2, supporting strong reading and writing outcomes and aligning with best-practice literacy instruction.
Epsom Primary School is dedicated to STEM education, sustainability, and hands-on learning, with a strong emphasis on real-world applications of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. A key part of this commitment is our involvement in the Energy Breakthrough program, where students design, build, and race Human Powered Vehicles (HPVs) in endurance and efficiency-based challenges.
Our school is deeply connected to the local community and actively promotes student leadership and voice. Opportunities include School and House Captains, Junior School Council, Green Magpies (sustainability leaders), Student Wellbeing Team and Young Aboriginal Leaders (barring djuwima). These programs foster a sense of belonging, responsibility, and student agency.
Epsom PS is also a proud 5-Star ResourceSmart School, demonstrating our commitment to sustainability and environmental leadership. Our student-led Green Magpies program plays a vital role in sustainability initiatives, engaging students in waste reduction, energy conservation, and environmental advocacy.
Epsom PS is committed to high-impact teaching practices and evidence-based learning strategies, aligning with Department of Education priorities. Our staff work collaboratively in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to ensure continuous improvement in student learning outcomes.
