The canteen operates 5 days per week and has lunch orders and counter sales at Recess and Lunch. This position is for 18 hours per week and days/times are Tuesday 8:30am-3:00pm, Wednesday 8.30am ¿ 3:00pm and Friday 8.30am ¿ 3:00pm during the school term.
The Canteen Assistant will prepare and serve food in the canteen on days that the Canteen Manager is not on the premises or working in other areas of the school. This will also include any other duties as directed by the Canteen Manager. The Canteen Assistant will follow the guidelines set out by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development for Healthy School Food Services and the school's canteen policy.

An education support class position at this range will perform tasks that are carried out in accordance with guidelines, accepted practice, and school policy under supervision and direction. This may include coordination of other education support class staff within the work area or educational program.
An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students but must not include duties of a teacher as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students can be required individually or in groups up to 4 in controlled circumstances and where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.
An education support class position at this range commencing at the base will initially be limited to undertaking routine tasks that are carried out under close supervision and direction. Work that carries some degree of independence will generally involve a limited number of tasks performed on a regular basis where priorities are clear, procedures are well established, and direction is readily available. Subject to any specific qualification and/or training requirement, an education support class employee employed in this range may be progressively required to undertake coordination, specialised student/teacher support tasks, or technical tasks as experience in the role is gained.

Rutherglen High School (enrolment 310) is situated in north-east Victoria servicing the rural townships of Chiltern, Rutherglen, Springhurst, Wahgunyah and the surrounding farming communities. We are increasingly a school of choice and as such attract students from Barnawartha, Wodonga, Corowa, Howlong and Albury. We have a balanced number of female and male students, with 4% being from an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background. The overall socio-economic profile is deemed to be 'medium'. The school's workforce consists of 35.7 EFT teachers and 12.4 EFT Educational Support Staff. Year 7 has an integrated curriculum approach to facilitate a smoother transition from primary school. The Year 9 Future Makers program successfully extends and challenges students to build strong links within the local and broader community, developing students' leadership and program management skills. Various extension and enrichment opportunities are offered to our highly capable students to support their development. We run both academic and vocational programs for students in Year 10 to 12 to extend pathway options for all students. Despite being a small school, we prioritise running a broad range of VCE subjects (including VET and Vocational Major) to cater for the interests and needs of all students. Parent satisfaction fluctuates by approximately 10% from year to year due to small numbers of collected responses. 2024 result is similar to previous years. School Climate was reported by staff to be below State average and is likely attributed to significant change in leadership management and changes in school direction and increased alignment to Department expectations.
