A Business Manager role will usually undertake tasks that impact on the whole school. The role seeks to gain cooperation of other staff members or members of the school community to achieve specific objectives, such as in school administration, finance or human resources.
Direction on targets and goals is provided but the position will have some degree of latitude in determining how they are achieved. This latitude will generally be limited by standard procedures and school policy. Deviation from standard procedures and school policy will require guidance and direction from senior management.
Management of staff to achieve the expected outcomes is a key responsibility. Staff management issues will be resolved with minimal reference to senior management, although guidance will be required in more complex cases. Senior management will be provided with timely reports and advice in matters relating to the school finance, human resources or school administration.
As a member of the College Leadership Team the Business Manager is responsible for the management of the following:
Financial Management
¿ Provide leadership in strategic planning with a focus on enhancing the school¿s financial position including reporting to the College Council and all sub-committees.
¿ Provide leadership in the program budgeting process including the preparation, implementation and management of the annual budget.
¿ Employ best practice and ensure proper financial practices and internal controls are always maintained in line with Department of Education (DE) regulations.
¿ Manage and monitor the Student Resource Package (SRP) and associated online planner with the principal.
Human Resources Management
¿ Participate in the implementation and further development of the school¿s workforce plan and provide authoritative advice on recruitment policy and procedures, leave and other entitlements.
¿ Manage recruitment, training, and performance management of non-teaching staff.
¿ Ensure compliance with employment laws and policies.
¿ Manage the priorities and work practices of support staff to ensure an efficient and effective workflow across the administration offices of the school.
¿ Focus on delivering a high level of customer service to the whole school community.
¿ Provide advice to leadership and staff in managing the work practices, priorities, performance and development of education support staff.
¿ Manage confidential storage and retrieval of all personnel, Workcover and payroll files.
¿ Conduct regular team meetings and actively support educational support staff to reflect upon and improve their professional practice in partnership with the ICT and Schools Operations Manager.
¿ Serve as a point of contact for all staff regarding eduPay and Leave matters.
Facilities Management
¿ Provide advice and make recommendations for the planning and implementation of proposed capital works, maintenance and general building and grounds projects.
¿ Manage maintenance and grounds staff to ensure that building and grounds are maintained in a safe, clean and presentable state.
¿ Management of contracts and services in line with Department of Education policy including the management of hire of facilities.
¿ Membership of the Facilities Committee
¿ Manage the OH&S requirements of the college in conjunction with the Leadership team to ensure compliance with the DET OH&S policies and guidelines.
Administration
¿ Ensure the provision of a range of administrative support functions for the Principal and teaching staff.
¿ Provide administrative support to external service providers as required.
¿ Oversight of the processing of student admissions, registrations, enrolments and transfers.
¿ Provide required level of administrative support for school events, functions and projects.
¿ Implement induction programs for new staff, volunteers and other workers to the school.
