Sandringham East Primary School is located in the leafy Bayside suburb of Sandringham, 15 kilometres southeast of the Melbourne CBD. The school was established in 1931 and has proudly served as a community hub for Sandringham, valuing relationships, and a strong sense of community for over 94 years.
At Sandy East PS, we believe that every child is a unique individual brimming with potential and curiosity, and it is our privilege to nurture and guide them along their educational journey. We are driven by a clear School Vision to ensure that we are building an inclusive community where our children are active learners, critical thinkers, and creative explorers. Our motto is to think, imagine, become.
Our school values of care, aspiration and respect underpin who we are as a community. They provide our students with a framework to develop core principles that empower them to make active and meaningful contributions to both their school and wider communities. A consistent, school-wide approach to establishing routines and protocols that focus on positive behaviours further enhance our ability to provide a harmonious learning environment. Students are taught to use the Zones of Regulation to assist with self-monitoring and the development of strategies.
With a current enrolment of 397 students, we are considered one of the medium sized schools in the Beachside Network. The staffing profile for 2026 consists of the principal, 1 assistant principal, 1 Leading Teacher, 2 Learning Specialists, 35 teachers and 11 education support staff. Specialist teachers teach PE, Visual Arts, Science and Mandarin (LOTE) along with an ES staff member who oversees the Kitchen Garden program.
We believe that the greatest impacts on student learning are teacher excellence and positive relationships. Our dedicated team of educators are committed to providing a safe, inclusive and stimulating environment where every child can flourish academically, socially and emotionally. We believe in taking collective responsibility and work collaboratively as a professional learning community to engage in rigorous data analysis and professional learning that enables us to focus on our continual strive for improvement.
We prioritise explicit instruction in English and Maths, as we believe these foundational subjects are key to student success. We focus on building strong literacy and numeracy skills through direct teaching, ensuring that every child has a solid understanding of these core areas. However, we also recognise the importance of a well-rounded education and incorporate an inquiry-based approach across the broader curriculum.
Extensive building works were completed at the end of 2024. The original heritage-listed administration building has resumed pride of place at the front of school. It is home to a wonderful new STEM Centre complete with a beautifully landscaped outdoor learning space. Beyond the front office lies newly appointed classrooms, a natural adventure playscape, library, canteen, freshly turfed sports oval and full-size gymnasium/basketball stadium. Students also enjoy the walking track, colourful junior playground, indigenous gardens and gaga pit. Our Junior Learning Centre has the Prep Backyard, which is a dedicated space for our Foundation students to enjoy. Our chooks roam freely in the kitchen garden, complete with a woodfire pizza oven and BBQ area.
Please see the school website for further information about our wonderful school.
