SC1 Proven ability to demonstrate initiative and leadership as part of an effective and cohesive team in a challenging and busy work environment, ensuring the continuous and efficient operation of the school. Demonstrated capacity to lead and support Education Support staff, including the ability to direct the work of others and to foster their professional growth when required.
SC2 Demonstrated high level of competency and understanding of relevant software systems, including financial management and human resources platforms such as CASES21, School Jobs Victoria, eduPay, Workers Compensation, and Student Resource Package. Strong knowledge of Department of Education (DE) policies and procedures relating to financial accountability and employment conditions. Proven ability to analyse, itemise, and break down system-generated data into clear and relevant school-based information to support informed decision-making.
SC3 Sound knowledge of financial management legal requirements and practices, with the demonstrated capacity to produce accurate and comprehensive reports, as well as provide informed advice based on those reports. Skilled in identifying, developing, and implementing innovative structures and processes that enhance efficiency, compliance, and accountability, thereby driving continuous improvement in the financial management and operations of a high-performing school.
SC4 High-level organisational skills with the capacity to effectively prioritise and manage competing workflows. A Business Manager role will usually undertake tasks that impact on the whole school. The role seeks to gain cooperation of other staff members or members of the school community to achieve specific objectives, such as in school administration, finance or human resources.
Direction on targets and goals is provided but the position will have some degree of latitude in determining how they are achieved. This latitude will generally be limited by standard procedures and school policy. Deviation from standard procedures and school policy will require guidance and direction from senior management.
Management of staff to achieve the expected outcomes is a key responsibility. Staff management issues will be resolved with minimal reference to senior management, although guidance will be required in more complex cases. Senior management will be provided with timely reports and advice in matters relating to the school finance, human resources or school administration.
