The Business Manager is a key member of Brunswick Secondary College's leadership team, responsible for the effective and efficient management of the financial operations, human resources and physical resources. This role supports the Principal and Council in the strategic and operational leadership of the college by ensuring compliance with departmental policies, managing budgets, overseeing school operations, and facilitating sound governance practices relating to financial operations and human resources when required.
The Business Manager leads administrative and educational support staff, ensuring systems are in place to support teaching and learning. The Business Manager contributes to long term planning, risk management, infrastructure development, procurement, and workforce planning.
The role requires strong financial knowledge, organisational skills, and the ability to build collaborative relationships with stakeholders across the school community.
Responsibilities
Finance
Manage and direct the preparation of annual budgets and regular financial statements, and contribute to the school's financial decision-making.
Develop and manage budgets in alignment with the School's Strategic Plan and Annual Implementation Plan.
Prepare funding submissions for the leadership team and school council.
Direct the accounting processes of the school and ensure that all funds, including school investments, are accounted for effectively in accordance with Treasury regulations.
Provide advice to staff on spending against budget in respect to faculties, programs and other school projects.
Administer government grants and other school income.
Scenario planning based on enrolment changes or policy shifts.
Manage fundraising activities.
General Administration
Ensure the provision of a range of administrative support functions for the Principal and teaching staff.
Provide administrative support to external service providers as required.
Manage the processing of student admissions, registrations, enrolments and transfers.
Provide the required level of administrative support for school events, functions and projects.
Implement induction programs for new staff, volunteers and other workers at the school.
Human Resources
Research, plan and prepare development programs for support staff.
Manage recruitment procedures.
Collaborate with the Principal on staffing profiles and workforce plans.
Ensure compliance with funding entitlements and staffing guidelines.
Provide authoritative advice to the leadership team on support structures and work practices.
Assist in the development of work practices that ensure appropriate occupational health and safety standards are maintained.
Manage procedures relating to employee relations issues.
Assist in the development of human resource planning.
Manage School Resources
Coordinate the use and maintenance of school buildings and equipment
Liaise and negotiate with service providers regarding the cost and quality of services.
Supervise the delivery of contracted services.
Manage the development and collection of resource material at the school.
Contribute to long-term planning for facilities, maintenance, and capital works.
Align physical resources with strategic education goals.
Support School Council
Draft reports and make recommendations on operational issues.
Evaluate and report on the operational efficiency of computer systems in production, making recommendations for improvement where appropriate.
Develop techniques and procedures that will affect work practices beyond the workplace.

Brunswick Secondary College is a co-educational Year 7-12 College. While its students are drawn from Brunswick , an overall enrolment of 1050 allows for some enrolment of students from outside this area. Modernisation of school facilities, completed in late 2018, allows for growth in enrolments over the next few years. The College has around 25 International students.
The college offers a traditional discipline-based curriculum; complemented by a wide range of specialist subjects and enrichment programs.
