The Business Manager is expected to provide a high level of support to the Principal team, Leadership team, staff, the student body and visitors to the College. The Business Manager is also responsible for managing an efficient and effective office. This position has a broader management responsibility, particularly in the area of finance, human resources, facilities and other support functions. Guidelines will need to be broad and day-to-day direction minimal. Management responsibility extends to ensuring appropriate support levels are maintained across the college. It will provide key support and timely advice to the Principal and School Council, as well as undertaking liaison on behalf of the Principal and School Council with the general school community, DET and other government agencies and service providers. This position is required to work co-operatively and consistently with both internal and external clients and involves close interaction with a range of staff and visitors to the College.
As a provider of professional services within a particular field there will be a high level of independence and accountability for the delivery of and achievement of objectives at this level. Business Management becomes a key feature at this level. This will involve the development and co-ordination of strategies across a range of functional areas that impact on the overall administration of the college and the achievement of its educational objectives.
Manage and direct the preparation of annual budgets and regular financial statements and contribute to financial decision making
Co-ordinate delivery of a range of support services across a school/s involving a range of work areas
Determine work priorities, schedule and approach within overall school and management policy
Interpret and analyse data to inform and provide authoritative advice to senior management
Manage and maximise college revenue and use of school resources
Manage recruitment procedures and ensure all DEECD policy and Merit and Equity requirements are met
Manage the personnel functions of the college including non-teaching staff, direction of school support staff, maintenance of personnel records and payroll functions and provision of advice in regards to conditions of employment for all school staff as well as the staffing budget
Provide a range of administrative and support duties for the School Council and Principal including the preparation of minutes and attending school council meetings
Manage the school¿s administrative support system including computer systems, administration staff priorities, student, staff and school records
Be a member of the Consultation Committee as the representative for the education support staff and attend all meetings of this group
Be accountable for performance of allocated tasks
Undertake relevant occupational health and safety requirements and, where necessary, risk assessments within the relative work area

Typical duties:
Administration
Manage and oversee the front of house, administration and basic day-to-day financial operations of the college
Ensure the provision of administrative support for the Principal, teaching staff, students and parents
Be the education support representative and an active member of the Consultative Committee
Liaise with the general college community, DET, government agencies and other external service providers on behalf of the Principal and School Council
Provide administrative support to external service providers as required
Oversee the processing of student admissions, registrations, enrolments and transfers
Provide administrative support for school events and functions
Oversea student records management
Encourage professional development for education support staff
Ensure school policies and DET policies and guidelines are followed
Finance
Manage and direct the preparation of annual budgets and regular financial statements and contribute to the financial decision making of the college
Assist the Principal in monitoring the college¿s student resource package (school funding)
Contribute to the financial decision making of the college and provide support for program budget managers
Manage all aspects of the collection of monies and issuing of receipts
Direct the accounting processes of the college (including CASES21) and ensure that all funds including school investments are effectively accounted for according to DET and Treasury guidelines
Provide regular advice to staff on spending against budgets in relation to programs, grants and other college projects
Manage end of month and end of year financial procedures
Administer government grants, other school income and salary mischarges
Be an active member of the School Council¿s Finance Sub-committee

Liaise with the Principal Team to collate furniture and budget submissions
Manage the efficient and effective use of the utilities that the college uses including gas, electricity, water and telephone
With the Assistant Principal, co-ordinate the tender process for the cleaning contract
Record all relevant information on PRMS and its subsequent expenditure
Other duties as required by the Principal class

Lalor Secondary College is a co-education school for students in Years 7 to 12.
