The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking an Assurance and Compliance Officer to provide a critical role at Operational Assurance and Compliance, System Performance Branch Custodial Operations.

Corrections Victoria is part of the Corrections and Justice Services group in the Department of Justice and Community Safety (department). Corrections Victoria operates Victoria's adult custodial corrections system. Its vision is for Safer Prisons, Safer People, Safer Communities. The System Performance Branch in Custodial Operations comprises three teams, which are: Operational Assurance, Compliance and Reviews; Continuous Improvement; and Statewide Operational Support. The branch provides authoritative, strategic, operational and policy advice, and briefing papers on a range of correctional issues to senior correctional management and is responsible for a range of work primarily across prisons. Its responsibilities include state-wide oversight of A Safer Places to Work, a range of central functions, including operational policy development, review and amendment, convening and participating in state-wide managers' meetings, performance monitoring and reporting, incident reporting, responding to family violence information sharing requests, oversight of internal and external reviews and investigations, coordination of Corrections Victoria's responses to coronial matters and litigation, auditing, correspondence, prison outreach and implementation support and general advice to prisons and other departmental staff and internal and external stakeholders.
About the Role
The Assurance and Compliance Officer reports to the Senior Assurance and Compliance Officer and is responsible for leading or supporting a range of auditing and functions to assess the performance of the correctional system. This involves the collection and collation of data and other materials and reporting against a range of operational practices and performance measures. This role will be required to gather information, statistics and views on identified issues, providing analysis, reports and recommendations to the Senior Assurance and Compliance Officer. This role needs to be proficient with Microsoft Excel, as this will play a critical role in day-to-day tasks.
While the position is based at 121 Exhibition Street Melbourne, flexible work arrangements are available and you will be required to travel to other locations based on business needs.
Some of your duties will include:
Contribute to monitoring the performance of the correctional system through the collection and collation of data and reporting against a range of operational practices and performance measures.
Participate in a range of activities including auditing and monitoring of operational practices to determine compliance, identify risks and improvements; collect, collate, analyse and report data.
Undertake consultation and liaison to gather information, statistics and views on identified issues, providing analysis and interpretation and provide related reports and recommendations of those issues to the Senior Operational Assurance and Compliance Officer.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Knowledge and understanding of Corrections Victoria's prison operations, policies and procedures
Demonstrated experience in maintaining databases and analysis of data to identify emerging issues and trends contributing to the identification and management of organisational risks, business improvement, policy development and achievement of performance outputs
Proficient computer literacy skills in PIMS, Centurion, Microsoft Excel
Qualifications
There are no mandatory qualifications for this role; however a tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline would be highly desirable
