The Litigation and Dispute Resolution Branch of the VGSO provides specialist legal services to a large number of government clients and departments, with an extraordinary diversity of challenging litigation and advice work.
The Role
The Assistant VGS, Litigation and Dispute Resolution Branch leads and manages a high-performing team of 95 legal and support staff who provide timely and high-quality legal and strategic advice on a range of complex matters including personal injury and negligence (including historical institutional abuse), general and police civil claims and coronial inquests.
The Assistant VGS drives and oversees client and stakeholder engagement and ensures that the Branch delivers tangible value to clients while managing financial, technological and people resources effectively.
In addition to leading the Branch, the Assistant VGS is a member of the VGSO Executive Leadership team and plays a critical role in shaping organisation-wide strategic direction and culture, including effective governance and performance oversight across the Office.
The Ideal Candidate
You offer deep (15+ years' pqe) technical expertise in litigation and advice across any of civil claims, judicial review, personal injuries, inquests and negligence.
Relevant legal experience was likely gained in a government or inhouse environment or as a senior SA, Special Counsel or junior partner in a private law firm. You demonstrate a keen interest in and understanding of excellent client services, people leadership and practice development.
You are a skilled and inclusive leader who cares for and supports your people and encourages their professional development. You manage a diverse range of duties and subject matter with ease and support others to do so.
You have a deep interest in running a sizeable practice and multi-disciplinary team and ensuring its success, professionally, personally and financially.
