Crusoe College, serving students in years 7-10 in the Bendigo region, was originally Kangaroo Flat Secondary College before merging with Golden Square Secondary College and upgrading its facilities in 2008. Assistant Principals are responsible for the management of significant areas or functions within a school to ensure the effective development, provision and evaluation of the school's education program. Assistant Principals contribute to the overall management of the school through involvement in policy formulation and decision making. At Crusoe College, Assistant Principals have the authority to make significant decisions relating to the program, budget and staff within their area of responsibility within the framework of the college strategic plan, policies and budget.
Assistant Principals at Crusoe College are core members of the Leadership Team, working with the Principal in a specific role to ensure policies and programs are developed and implemented to maximise student learning opportunities. They have the capacity to work cooperatively in a complex, busy, high performance environment and can bring a whole school perspective to their work.
Assistant Principals are expected to demonstrate exemplary values and attitudes. They will have the ability to build and maintain effective teams and develop cooperative working relationships which promote excellence in teaching and learning and in effective communication with all community members and stakeholders.
Assistant Principals are respectful, collaborative and consultative members of the leadership team who listen to and consider input from others.
Assistant Principals understand DET¿s core frameworks, including the Framework for Improving Student Outcomes 2.0 (FISO 2.0), the college Strategic Plan and Annual Implementation Plan and how they relate to the everyday practice of teachers.
This role includes an expectation of participation in parent and student information evenings, Open Days and other college-wide events some of which may be held outside school hours.
Key Responsibilities
Please note that the responsibilities listed below are not exhaustive but rather indicative of the scope of the role. Additional tasks may be required to support college needs.
Share responsibility for general discipline matters
Hold primary responsibility for overseeing student wellbeing and Disability Inclusion strategy across the college.
Lead the work of the Wellbeing and Disability Inclusion Teams, including the Wellbeing Team Leader and Disability Inclusion Leading Teacher.
Manage personnel with portfolios related to this role, including the Social Workers, Nurse, Mental Health Practitioner, SWITCh teachers, Refocus, Hands on Learning, integration aides and administrative staff.
Liaise with relevant staff to manage referrals for students to internal and external wellbeing services
Align school support services and programs to ensure efficient delivery and achievement of intended outcomes.
Identify, develop and manage the delivery of professional learning relevant to improving student outcomes
Facilitate the development of whole school wellbeing initiatives
Lead the planning, implementation and evaluation of a range of re-engagement programs within the College such as SWITCh, Hands on Learning and Refocus.
Ensure consistency of practice and a collaborative approach to vulnerable cohorts such as OoHC and other at risk students
Develop and facilitate communication between teaching staff and wellbeing personnel to ensure information is shared with relevant staff and referrals are timely and appropriate
Lead whole school presentations and events linked to wellbeing and Disability Inclusion, such as Child Safe Standards and RUOK Day
Proactively liaise with DE&T staff and external personnel to refer students to alternative education settings such as BFLO, DOXA, Indie School etc
Lead the interpretation of student wellbeing data in order to effectively act strategically to achieve improvement in student outcomes
Manage the camps and excursions program at the college, including the development and presentation of risk assessments for high risk activities to College Council.
Manage compliance matters related to Childsafe Standards and DET/college policies
Develop and maintain constructive relationships with other educational providers and external agencies to address identified issues of student wellbeing
Chair or participate in relevant BEP CoP/s
Share in the design and implementation of the Performance and Development Program.
Other related duties as directed by the Principal
Appropriately qualified individuals currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching.
