The Assistant Principal is a key member of the Principal Team (Principal and 2 APs), responsible for shaping the school's strategic direction, leading improvement, and ensuring effective day-to-day operations. The role balances strategic leadership, instructional leadership, and operational management.
Role
The Assistant Principal works closely with the Principal to drive whole-school improvement. They have responsibility for building staff capacity and leadership and ensuring high-quality teaching and learning is evident across every classroom for every student. The Assistant Principal oversees major operational areas and is pivotal in fostering a culture of shared responsibility and continuous improvement.
While the Principal Team works collaboratively, each has responsibility for a leadership portfolio to ensure ongoing whole school improvement. Each portfolio has specific responsibilities that sit within four key areas:
The role of Assistant Principal requires key skills and high-level capabilities in:
1. Strategic Leadership
Provide leadership to the school in the ongoing implementation of the Strategic Plan, Annual Implementation Plan, School Improvement Framework and the school's Educational Vision.
Lead the implementation and embedding of department initiatives, including Disability Inclusion, the VTLM 2.0 and School Wide Positive Behaviours (SWPBS).
Lead the building of a culture based on shared responsibility for whole school improvement that places student learning, engagement and wellbeing at the very centre.
Assist the Principal in the leadership and management of the educational, administrative and financial operations of the school and be prepared, in the absence of the Principal, to assume the Principal's role and responsibilities.

Provide leadership, advice, support, student management and supervision for all staff in the implementation of school programs.
Facilitate leadership Professional Learning sessions for all school leaders and undertake the role of Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) Leader.

Work closely with staff to establish and maintain sound and effective administrative procedures within the school in accord with the industrial agreement.
Ensure a safe, effective and inclusive school environment.

Provide support to the Principal in the implementation of School Council policy.

Represent the school and the Principal when required at whole school and community events.
Encourage community involvement in school activities and the active participation of parents, teachers and students in appropriate decision making forums.

Our Student Support Team consists of a Wellbeing Team Manager, a Mental Health Practioner, a Youth Worker and a school nurse.
