The assistant principal reports directly to the principal.
Assistant principals have a primary responsibility for the management of significant areas or functions within the school to ensure the effective development, provision and evaluation of the school's education program. In exercising the responsibility, assistant principals will have the authority to make all significant decisions relating to the program, budget and staff relating to their area of designated responsibility within the framework of the school's strategic plan, policies and budget. Assistant principals will contribute to the overall management of the school through involvement in policy formulation and decision making.
The management of significant school program or functional areas in schools involve assistant principals in the analysis of the needs of students and the translation of state educational policy and frameworks into appropriate education programs to meet the needs of all students.
Typically assistant principals will be responsible for the effective use of the teaching staff and program budget of a defined area of the school's operation and for the oversight and leadership of the educational programs provided utilising these resources.
The successful candidate for this position will be expected to:
Chair the Education Subcommittee of College Council and maintain a policy schedule to ensure policies are updated in a timely manner
Oversee whole school staff professional learning and support the work of our learning specialist coaches
In liaison with the leadership team, coordinate staff professional learning days
Co-lead our whole school approach of our SWPBS framework with its systems and processes
Oversee the learning communities of Years P-6 and from 2027 oversee one of the three sub-schools
Lead implementation of a school improvement initiative
Work with leaders to oversee implementation of PLCs within the school
Be an active participant in the leading of learning
Together with the other Assistant Principal, oversee the school attendance while raising community expectations around attendance
Contribute to the overall management of the school
Support the use of data to drive improvement in learning communities
Oversee the Tutor Learning Initiative (TLI) programs and teachers for Years P-6
Support student engagement, enrichment, voice and agency
Oversee new student induction of students at Years P-6 ensuring the support of both learning and wellbeing
Support the daily organisation with managing the replacement of absent teachers
Manage processes associated with camps, excursions, and special events approvals, ensuring Time in Lieu (TIL) is considered prior to approval
Other duties as directed by the Principal, taking into account the successful applicants strengths and skill set
Appropriately qualified individuals currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching.

Kyabram P-12 College is a co-educational school located approximately 200 km north of Melbourne, in the rural township of Kyabram on the western edge of the Goulburn Valley, midway between Echuca and Shepparton. Enrolment numbers have remained stable with approximately 900 students of which six percent had English as an additional language and seven percent were Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders.
