Assistant principals have a primary responsibility for the management of significant areas or functions within schools to ensure the effective development, provision and evaluation of the schools education program. In exercising their responsibility, assistant principals have the authority to make decisions relating to the program, budget and staff relating to their area of designated responsibility within the framework of the school¿s strategic plan, policies and budget. Assistant principals will contribute to the overall management of the school through involvement in policy formulation and decision making. The leadership of significant programs or functional areas in schools involve assistant principals in the analysis of the needs of students and the translation of state educational policy and frameworks into appropriate education programs to meet the needs of all students. Assistant principals are expected to demonstrate exemplary values and behaviour, and should demonstrate the ability to build and maintain positive teams and gain strong community support.
At Lakes Entrance Secondary College, the role of the Assistant Principal will grow and change as the College priorities expand. The Assistant Principal will be expected to work flexibly and collaboratively to lead and manage a wide range of responsibilities within the college program.

The Assistant Principal will provide dynamic leadership to students and staff. They will take a leading role to ensure that learning, teaching and wellbeing requirements are adhered to across the College. They will take a leading role in the development and implementation of school strategic goals and priorities. With student managers, teachers and other key staff, s/he will develop a strong sense of group identity among students and ensure that their achievements, individual and group, are acknowledged and celebrated. The Assistant Principal will drive a culture of high expectations, one that is positive, supportive and inclusive.

The Assistant Principal will work with the Business Manager to support the daily organisation of the college, including the college¿s calendar of events and activities and other daily operational matters in relation to students and student programs.
Student Engagement
The Assistant Principal will lead all areas of student engagement, wellbeing and management across the College, taking responsibility for student pride, school culture, student behaviour and student and family connection to the college.
Specifically:
Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.

This role is scheduled to commence on Monday 6 October 2025 (start of Term 4), with the opportunity to begin in an acting capacity prior to this date.
To be eligible for employment, transfer or promotion in the principal or teacher class a person must have provisional or full registration from the Victorian Institute of Teaching. In addition, from 3 August 2020, to be eligible for employment in the principal class or teacher class, a person who graduated from a Victorian Initial Teacher Education program after 1 July 2016, must demonstrate that they have passed the literacy and numeracy test for initial teacher education (LANTITE) requirements. This condition is satisfied where the LANTITE requirement is part of the Victorian Initial Teacher Education program completed by the person.
