The assistant principal reports directly to the principal.
Assistant principals have a primary responsibility for the management of significant areas or functions within the school to ensure the effective development, provision and evaluation of the school's education program. In exercising the responsibility, assistant principals will have the authority to make all significant decisions relating to the program, budget and staff relating to their area of designated responsibility within the framework of the school's strategic plan, policies and budget. Assistant principals will contribute to the overall management of the school through involvement in policy formulation and decision making.
The management of significant school program or functional areas in schools involve assistant principals in the analysis of the needs of students and the translation of state educational policy and frameworks into appropriate education programs to meet the needs of all students.
Typically assistant principals will be responsible for the effective use of the teaching staff and program budget of a defined area of the school's operation and for the oversight and leadership of the educational programs provided utilising these resources.
An Assistant Principal at VCD is expected to exercise high quality leadership skills and knowledge consistent with the values of the College and DET by:

Assistant Principal - Learning
The Assistant Principal - Learning reports directly to the Principal
Areas of responsibility and accountability: Teaching & Learning/Curriculum/Assessment & Reporting/Professional Learning Communities/Student Management
Implement, monitor, evaluate and achieve the goals and targets of the Strategic Plan and the Annual Implementation Plan.
Lead and develop high performing teams to support and promote excellence in teaching and learning
Oversee the implementation of the PLCs and PLTs
Lead the implementation of our instructional model, curriculum plans, assessment & reporting
Lead the moderation of common assessment tasks, data collection and analysis and evaluation of student learning growth over time
Lead a consistent and sustained approach to the implementation of evidenced-based high impact teaching strategies to improve student achievement
Lead the modelling of best teaching practice and how to coach staff effectively to improve student outcomes
Lead a culture of collaboration and collective responsibility to develop effective and consistent teaching practices to improve student achievement
Ensure that curriculum documentation and teaching practice reflect the college Curriculum, Teaching & Learning, Assessment and Reporting Framework
Oversee the production of all curriculum and program handbooks and publications.
Ensure that the College curriculum (Working Towards Victorian Curriculum, Victorian Curriculum, VCE, VCE VM, VET, VPC and VPC-M) is documented and delivered in a manner consistent with DE policy and regulatory requirements and standards.
Build relationships with Tertiary Institutions that facilitate successful student placements and program enhancement.
Lead the implementation of reporting with Subject Coordinators, Sub school Leaders and the Literacy & Numeracy Leader.
Responsibility for general discipline matters beyond the management of classroom teachers and sub school leaders
Provide a child safe environment in accordance with the child safe standards
Other duties as directed by the Principal.
Appropriately qualified individuals currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching.
