The assistant principal reports directly to the principal.
Assistant principals have a primary responsibility for the management of significant areas or functions within the school to ensure the effective development, provision and evaluation of the school's education program. In exercising the responsibility, assistant principals will have the authority to make all significant decisions relating to the program, budget and staff relating to their area of designated responsibility within the framework of the school's strategic plan, policies and budget. Assistant principals will contribute to the overall management of the school through involvement in policy formulation and decision making.
The management of significant school program or functional areas in schools involve assistant principals in the analysis of the needs of students and the translation of state educational policy and frameworks into appropriate education programs to meet the needs of all students.
Typically assistant principals will be responsible for the effective use of the teaching staff and program budget of a defined area of the school's operation and for the oversight and leadership of the educational programs provided utilising these resources.
Typically, assistant principals perform one or more of the following functions:
Appropriately qualified individuals currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching.

Berwick Chase Primary School is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Assistant Principal to lead and drive the school's commitment to student wellbeing. The successful applicant will demonstrate a strong passion for supporting the social, emotional, and academic success of all students, while fostering a safe, inclusive, and positive school culture.
A key responsibility of this role is to lead the Mental Health and Wellbeing program and the School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) program, ensuring these frameworks are embedded across the school. The Assistant Principal will play a pivotal role in supporting students requiring tier one, two, and three interventions, working closely with staff, families, and external agencies to provide targeted and effective strategies that enhance student engagement and wellbeing.
The role requires a skilled leader who can inspire staff, collaborate effectively with colleagues, and maintain a proactive approach to strengthening the whole-school culture of care and connectedness. As a member of the school's leadership team, the Assistant Principal will actively contribute to school-wide decision making, strategic planning, and continuous improvement. The position also includes other duties as directed by the Principal to support the effective operation of the school.

To be eligible for employment, transfer or promotion in the principal or teacher class a person must have provisional or full registration from the Victorian Institute of Teaching. In addition, from 3 August 2020, to be eligible for employment in the principal class or teacher class, a person who graduated from a Victorian Initial Teacher Education program after 1 July 2016, must demonstrate that they have passed the literacy and numeracy test for initial teacher education (LANTITE) requirements. This condition is satisfied where the LANTITE requirement is part of the Victorian Initial Teacher Education program completed by the person.
Berwick Chase Primary School officially opened its doors at the start of the 2009 school year. Located in one of the fastest growing areas in Australia, the school has undergone significant and rapid growth.
The school consists of two permanent buildings that are complimented by a number of relocatable buildings that will increase as the student population grows. The current enrolment is 700 students.
The staff utilise flexible learning spaces to provide our students with a firm grounding in Numeracy and Literacy whilst developing the students thinking and social skills to their greatest potential. Staff work collaboratively to provide the students with a learning environment that encourages all children to develop to their highest level.
