General Description
The Assistant Principal reports directly to the Principal and has primary responsibility for the management of significant areas or functions within the College to ensure the effective development, delivery and evaluation of the education program.
Within their designated area of responsibility, the Assistant Principal will exercise authority to make significant decisions relating to programs, budgets, staffing and resources, within the framework of the College's strategic plan, policies and budget. The Assistant Principal will also contribute to the overall management of the College through policy development, strategic planning and decision-making.
The management of significant College programs and functional areas requires the Assistant Principal to analyse student and staff needs and translate relevant educational policies and frameworks into effective programs and practices that support improved outcomes for all students.
Typically, the Assistant Principal will be responsible for the effective allocation and use of teaching staff, budgets and other resources within their designated area, as well as providing leadership and oversight of relevant programs and initiatives.
It is important to note that the responsibilities of the Assistant Principal extend beyond the specific areas outlined in this position description and may include broader College leadership responsibilities as required.

Assistant Principal - Professional Growth & Development
At Yarrabing Secondary College, the Assistant Principal - Professional Growth & Development will be accountable to the College Executive Team and will provide leadership, advice, direction and support to the College Executive, teaching staff and wider College community within their designated area of responsibility.
The Assistant Principal - Professional Growth & Development will lead initiatives that strengthen teaching practice, teacher capacity and professional growth across the College. In liaison with the College Executive and in accordance with College policies, the Assistant Principal will work collaboratively with the Assistant Principal - Curriculum and relevant Leading Teachers/Learning Specialists to develop and implement programs that enhance teaching excellence, professional practice and pedagogy in classrooms.
The primary responsibility of this position is to coordinate, manage and monitor a range of programs that support the professional growth and capacity building of staff and contribute to a positive culture of high expectations, collaboration and continuous improvement.
Working collaboratively with the Assistant Principal - Curriculum, the Assistant Principal - Professional Growth & Development will contribute to a coordinated approach to strengthening professional practice and improving teaching and learning across the College.
The leadership focus of the role will include facilitating forward planning, fostering a team-oriented approach and supporting high levels of professional expectation and aspiration among staff.
The Assistant Principal - Professional Growth & Development will exercise sound judgement and initiative in identifying and resolving issues raised by staff, ensuring that relevant policies, procedures and professional standards are consistently applied. These responsibilities will be exercised within the broader policies and strategic direction of the College and under the supervision of the College Executive.
The Assistant Principal - Professional Growth & Development will work collaboratively with other Educational Leaders in Teaching and Learning. As the College grows, the leadership team will continue to evolve, with responsibilities negotiated with the Principal Team and allocated according to the needs of the College, the expertise of individual leaders and opportunities for leadership development.
The Assistant Principal - Professional Growth & Development will provide advice to the College Executive and Leadership Team on matters relating to teaching excellence, staff growth and strategies for continuous College improvement.

About Us
Yarrabing Secondary College opened in Term 1 2024 and provides the growing local population with great educational opportunities close to home. In 2026 Yarrabing Secondary College had a student population of 680 students in Year 7, 8 & 9. The college will progressively grow by one year level thereafter. In 2027, we will have Year 7, Year 8, Year 9 and Year 10 students only. In 2027 it is anticipated that there will be provision of a small number of VCE studies to its accelerated Year 10 students that the college is currently in the process of accrediting for. By 2029, the college will provide an extensive senior school offering to its senior students of traditional VCE subjects, as well as VM, VPC and VET.
Yarrabing Secondary College is located 29 kilometres west of Melbourne, in the suburb of Aintree. When fully established in 2029, the school is anticipated to have 1400 students enrolled from Year 7 to 12 and 130 school staff members.
Our school grounds are close to planned parklands, sporting facilities, and we are surrounded by a supportive community. Most students that will attend our school live locally and would tend to walk or ride their bike to school.
