ROLE SUMMARY:
The Assistant Chief Officer - Readiness (ACO-R) is a senior leadership role within the Operations Directorate that provides comprehensive, authoritative advice and expertise in shaping and influencing effective service delivery and operational response across Victoria, implementing programs and initiatives that enable the strategic objectives of VICSES
The ACO-R is accountable for leading and managing the assessment of operational capability and capacity needs, delivery of specialist capabilities and operational doctrine to deliver VICSES services safely and effectively whilst contributing to the on-going development of an all communities, all emergencies approach
The ACO-R will provide professional leadership to an integrated team of volunteers and staff across the State, applying astute judgement, strategic leadership, exercising high levels of delegations, working in a matrix model for building a flexible and agile workforce, driving a culture of high performance, innovation and interoperability for emergency response and improving safety performance.
This is a leadership role within the Operations Directorate and will shape and influence operational practices whilst providing a stronger, community centred approach with regional and state teams to ensure communities are connected to the right information to make informed decisions
This role has accountability for making Readiness and Response decisions on behalf of VICSES at the State Tier and will actively undertake operational command and control functions during specific local, regional and statewide operations. It performs senior multi-agency Incident or State Agency Command functions, maintaining accreditation by the Emergency Management Commissioner, ensuring the appropriate advice, support and allocation of resources for emergency readiness and response to the most senior levels of Government

Victoria State Emergency Service is a volunteer-based emergency service. Our highly skilled and equipped Volunteers are trained comprehensively in a wide range of emergency environments. To minimise the impact of emergencies when they occur and strengthen the community's capacity to recover, VICSES focuses on working with communities and partners in building resilience to achieve more aware, informed and prepared communities. We support them to understand their risk and the relevance of taking action before, during and after emergencies
As the largest road rescue network in Australia we have specialist teams that provide a 24/7 response to road accident and trauma incidents. We assist Victoria Police in search and rescue operations, and play an important role in supporting the Country Fire Authority, Fire Rescue Victoria, Parks Victoria and the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action during major bushfire and emergency incidents
