Nganboo Borron School is located at 2 Frome Cr, Werribee, and supports students with mild to profound intellectual disabilities in the Wyndham area. Students access specialised education services and high-quality learning and wellbeing programs. Nganboo Borron School has capacity up to 148 students, enrolling students from Foundation to year 12.
Our facility consists of 4 permanent buildings, including: an administration building (incorporating school library and staff lounge); 2 learning neighbourhoods (1 Junior and 1 Senior); a community hub with indoor multi-use court; canteen; arts/music spaces; hard courts; and a sports field.
Students have great modern learning areas with air conditioning and heating inside with undercover walkways and shelters for protection from the weather when outdoors. The Allied Health Assistant (AHA) plays a significant role in assisting the education, development, participation and engagement of all students through supporting classroom based staff to implement supports, interventions and adjustments that allow safe and equitable access to the curriculum and the learning environment. They advocate for, and protect the rights, of children and young people, and address the Allied Health care and wellbeing needs of students. This includes the implementation of support recommendations, individual student plans and student programs informed by internal Allied Health and Wellbeing staff into classroom and whole school practice. It also involves coordination, organisation and provision of specific training, knowledge sharing and collaboration with external therapists to support consistent practice for students.
The AHA will support students broadly with health, support and wellbeing needs including: health promotion, language and communication, sensory and physical support needs, behaviour support, meal and toileting plans, regulation and engagement strategies and medical intervention supports where appropriate.
The Allied Health Assistant operates in accordance with government and Department of Education legislation, guidelines and accepted practice and protocols, including complying with all Workplace OH&S legislation, regulations, policies and procedures, and adhering to the Child Safe Standards.
Support the implementation and delivery of: Occupational therapy, Speech therapy, Medical Intervention Support, Physiotherapy and behaviour therapy recommendations, adjustments and interventions based on specialist guidance, assessment data and evidence-based practices.
Delivery of specific staff professional learning and intervention support based on therapy recommendations from NBS Allied Health Team.
Implementation and monitoring of individual behaviour support plans and student specific programs, providing necessary professional learning to model strategies for classroom-based staff to ensure student safety, under the guidance of the Wellbeing and Engagement Leaders and/or Certified Behaviour Analyst.
Implementation and monitoring of individual student meal assistance plans, providing necessary training for staff to ensure student safety whilst eating.
Implementation and monitoring of individual student toileting plans, providing necessary training for staff to ensure student safety and dignity while toileting.
Promote and support the use of a range of therapy equipment and devices for students and staff including AAC¿s (high and low tech), sensory equipment, walking and standing frames and specialised chairs where appropriate.
Communicate with parents/guardians and external allied health professionals to support a holistic approach to address individual student needs
Maintain up-to-date case notes on Compass and within the student file, ensuring documents are only distributed to relevant staff.
Actively contribute to the NBS Allied Health, Wellbeing and Engagement teams.
Undertake other duties as directed by the Principal, within the scope of the position.
