About the VRU
The VRU works across government and community to intervene early and stop violence before it starts. We take a preventative and public health approach to address the root causes of violence, using data and intelligence to target interventions when and where they are needed most, coordinating crime prevention efforts across government and local services and investing in and delivering programs and interventions that are proven to turn people away from crime.
About the role
Reporting to the Principal Adviser, Policy and Programs, the Adviser role will work collaboratively across the VRU to:
- provide high-quality advice on crime prevention policy settings, ensuring advice is intelligence-led and informed by data, research and on-the-ground, localised insights
- deliver VRU programs in partnership with communities, government departments and agencies, ensuring initiatives incorporate evaluation principles from the outset and are delivered effectively, in time and within budget
- contribute to the delivery of the VRU’s strategic objectives, ensuring activities align with government priorities and organisational goals
Key accountabilities
- Provide high-quality, timely and authoritative policy advice to the Premier, Ministers and senior executives on innovative approaches to reducing violence, including through briefings, reports, correspondence, parliamentary materials and Cabinet submissions.

- Lead components of project management activities, including project planning, coordination, and the identification and management of risks and issues, ensuring deliverables align with agreed work programs and project objectives.
- Support the design, implementation and continuous improvement of programs arising from crime prevention policy initiatives.
- Proactively build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders across government and the community, and represent the VRU in cross-government forums, consultations and working groups.
