Parkhill Primary School is situated in Ashwood, approximately fifteen kilometres east of the Melbourne Central Business District. The school was established in 1994 as the result of a three-school amalgamation. In addition to the core teaching spaces and general classrooms, a Building the Education Revolution (BER) Federal Government package enabled the school to build a Performing Arts centre, a Science/Kitchen Classroom and maximise other teaching and learning spaces. These facilities are complemented by a library, STEAM room, a full-sized basketball stadium and newly renovated playground areas. The school established grounds constitute soon to be upgraded community garden, student and community artwork, a large oval, a soccer ground, various shaded play areas, and covered walkways between classrooms.
Current enrolments at Parkhill are 180 at the beginning of 2026. The Student Family Occupation Education (SFOE) index was 0.1969 in 2025. Parkhill's 2026 school staffing profile comprises 7 full time equivalent (FTE) teaching staff, 4 part time specialist staff and 5 education support staff, one of which is literacy and numeracy intervention. Staffing includes a principal and one part time Assistant Principal and one part time MHWL.
Parkhill is a community focused school that embraces all members of our community. We have a commitment to grow our enrolment while still ensuring that staff knows each student and their families. The individual needs, personal interests and unique characteristics of our students are known and supported by staff and enriched in a safe and positive learning environment. We provide our students a broad and engaging curriculum that meets the needs of all students.
The school's curriculum framework incorporated the eight learning areas required by The Education and Training Reform Act 2006 aligned with the Victorian Curriculum. We also run a specialist program including the areas of Chinese Mandarin, Physical Education STEAM and Performing Arts. The school offers a range of indoor, and nature based outdoor play areas and provides lunch time activities and clubs. Our philosophy around learning and teaching is based on the understanding that students learn best by being engaged and active in their learning. Through the implementation of evidence-based approaches and a viable and evidence base pedagogical model, our teachers aim to create experiences that inspire students to learn and to continually challenge their creative and critical thinking skills.
Our commitment to the pastoral care and mental health of our students is supported with a range of programs that support the emotional needs of our students. Programs such as our SEL whole school focus and house system, buddies, Deakin Alliance counselling programs, playtime clubs, student leadership opportunities, support and enrichment teachers and mentor programs all support our students¿ emotional needs. We are a School Wide Positive Behaviour school.
We are proud of our school and our strong community culture, which is best summarised by the School Oath:
I will try to do my best in everything I do.
I will respect parents, students, and teachers.
I will obey the laws and do my best to make the world a better place.
I am proud to be an Australian.
I am proud to be a student at Parkhill Primary School.
This, together with our school values of care, curiosity, community, and courage lay the foundations for developing knowledgeable, well balanced, and confident young citizens.
