This is an opportunity for an ACEM trainee in TS2 or 3 to complete an accredited 6-month term in the NHW ED and 6-month term in a non Ed Term being ICU as part of a the ACEM blended supervision program. The trainee will have a local supervisor at NHW and a DEMT based at Western Health.
Northeast Health Wangaratta (NHW) is the major health provider in the Central Hume region. NHW has recently completed a major redevelopment, including the building of a new emergency department, ICU, and expansion of medical and paediatric units.
NHW is a growing regional service with 255 beds and is the major referral facility for the greater part of Northeast Victoria. Our Emergency Department sees an increasing number of presentations, with an average of 80-110 per day (>30,000 per year and growing). We see a wide variety of presentations including trauma and approximately 25% of our presentations are paediatrics.
The Emergency Department is supported by a broad range of inpatient specialties including Internal Medicine, Critical Care Unit (including ICU, HDU and CCU beds), General Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Urology, Anaesthesia, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Geriatrics/Rehabilitation, Medical Oncology, and Mental Health services.
The service contributes to undergraduate and post-graduate medical education and to nursing and allied health education. University of Melbourne’s popular rural clinical school is located onsite its education facilities include a simulation lab and skills centre.
Our Senior Medical Staff comprises of FACEMS, FACRRMS, FRACGP all of whom have completed ACEM’s EMC, EMD or EMAD programs.
