About the role:
Applications are sought from Medical Oncology trainees or Medical Oncologists for the position of Clinical Research Fellow at Western Health. The position is suitable for a third year trainee or a junior consultant.
This position would be an opportunity for a trainee or an oncologist to work as part of a large clinical, research and academic team and take on the responsibility of the care of patients on clinical trials.
The applicant would be exposed to a range of research activities including phase I to large phase III national and international clinical trials. You would be expected to work in an autonomous fashion but will be fully supported by clinical research and oncology staff. You will gain experience in numerous areas of clinical research including day to day management of patients, adverse event reporting, good clinical practice, protocol development, ethics submissions.
Duties:
The role of the Clinical Research Fellow is to be part of a large clinical, research and academic team based at Sunshine Hospital Cancer Services. The Fellow will take on the responsibility of the care of patients on clinical trials and will be exposed to range of research activities including phase I to large phase III national and international clinical trials.
The Fellow will attend at least two (2) and possibly three general and subspecialty Oncology clinics with the support of 16 Oncologists of varying subspecialties. These clinics are located at both Sunshine and Footscray Hospitals. There will be opportunities for writing papers, involvement in projects and participation in national and international conferences. The fellow will work in an autonomous fashion while fully supported by clinical research and oncology staff. The fellow will participate in an approximately 1 in 6 after-hours roster covering calls from the wards in the evenings and overnight and conducting weekend ward rounds.
The candidate will gain experience in numerous areas of clinical research including day today management of patients, adverse event reporting, good clinical practice, protocol development and ethics submissions. He/She will be involved in a formal teaching program designed for Oncology trainees and Fellow’s and be given various opportunities to do clinical research projects and writing papers with research opportunities available in most tumor streams.
