Barwon Health Infectious Disease | Registrar Roles
Microbiology & Public Health Registrar
About the role
The Infectious Diseases Advanced Training program at Barwon Health provides comprehensive clinical exposure across inpatient, outpatient and ambulatory care settings within a highly regarded tertiary referral service. Trainees are involved in the management of complex infectious diseases, antimicrobial stewardship and infection prevention activities across multiple sites, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care.
The department provides a broad range of specialist services including inpatient consultation, outpatient clinics, Hospital in the Home, HIV care, viral hepatitis, refugee health and antimicrobial stewardship programs. There are strong links with the Barwon South West Public Health Unit, providing valuable experience in public health, epidemiology and outbreak management.
The program is strongly supported by a structured education framework, regular teaching, and close consultant supervision. There are also excellent opportunities for involvement in research, quality improvement and academic development, with established partnerships with Deakin University and infectious diseases research networks.
The program also offers a unique training opportunity through an Infectious Diseases Advanced Trainee placement in Alice Springs. This role provides consulting inpatient and outpatient Infectious Diseases services to the Central Australian region, while supporting Infection Control, Hospital in the Home and Antimicrobial Stewardship programs within the hospital. Trainees will also have the opportunity to work closely with the Centre for Disease Control in Alice Springs, gaining valuable experience in public health, outreach and the management of infectious diseases in a remote setting. Support provisions, including accommodation and relocation assistance, are available for this placement.
You will be part of a highly skilled, professional and collaborative team that values respect, compassion, commitment, accountability and innovation, within an environment that supports learning, development and progression to specialist training.
